How was the Spanish victory over France?

Spain complicated things after going up 5-1, with goals from Nico Williams (22), Mikel Merino (26), Pedri (55), and a brace from Lamine Yamal (54 from penalty and 67), while Kylian Mbappé (59) had also scored from a penalty.

In the final stretch, the Bleus came close to a feat by scoring through goals from Rayan Cherki (79), an own goal from Dani Vivian (83), and a final one from Randal Kolo Muani (90+3).

Spain had not scored five goals against France since a friendly match at the historic Colombes stadium won 5-1 in 1949.

After winning the titles in the 2023 Nations League and the 2024 Euro Cup, Luis De la Fuente’s team aspires to a third end-of-season celebration with a title.

France, in the midst of euphoria over PSG’s recent European title, was confident in being able to seek revenge in this match for the Euro semi-final they lost to Spain.

Portugal, finalist after eliminating the host Germany, was the first champion of the Nations League. In 2019 they defeated the Netherlands.

Spain has gone two years, two months, and three days without losing an official match. Their streak of 23 official matches undefeated has already led them to win the Nations League 2023 and the Euro 2024.

Their last defeat occurred on March 28, 2023, against Scotland in Glasgow. They are approaching the best record in the history of the national team, 29 games undefeated, achieved during the golden era of Spanish football between 2010 and 2013.
