This is Norris’ first victory at the historic street circuit of Monte Carlo and also McLaren’s first victory in the principality since Lewis Hamilton won in 2008.

How was Norris’ victory in Monaco?

On an afternoon where he had to sweat more than expected, poleman Norris withstood the pressure from Monegasque Charles Leclerc (Ferrari) just behind the reigning champion, Dutchman Max Verstappen (Red Bull), who remained in the lead until the penultimate lap, without making the second of the two mandatory pit stops, waiting for something to happen that would unleash chaos.

Once Verstappen pitted on lap 77, the Briton pushed and got rid of the local idol to celebrate the sixth victory of his career and the first in the principality. Leclerc and Piastri, who continues to lead the championship but with only three points ahead of his teammate, completed the podium.

Finally, Verstappen finished fourth, ahead of the British Lewis Hamilton (Ferrari), and the French Isack Hadjar (RB) and Esteban Ocon (Haas), the New Zealander Liam Lawson (RB), the Thai Alex Albon (Williams), and Carlos Sainz (Williams) closed the ‘Top 10’.

For this year, the FIA decided to add a second mandatory pit stop in order to add some excitement to a race that offers very few overtaking opportunities and DRS usage, and also doesn’t wear out the tires much.

Thanks to that, even though there wasn’t much excitement, at least there was tension until the end due to Verstappen and Red Bull’s decision to stretch the second pit stop until the end.
