Through its account @etxezarretaharategia on TikTok, the Etxezarreta Harategia butcher shop presented a video on how to freeze and defrost meat to consume it in a healthy way.

Two butchers from this butcher shop explained to customers that it is a lie that meat loses quality when frozen. "How you defrost it is more important than the fact that it was frozen," one of them pointed out.

Technique for freezing and thawing meat

They explained that the ideal thing is to freeze the meat in a good refrigerator, as this helps to preserve it. It is advisable for the freezing process to be quick, as if it is slow, frost may appear. "The faster you freeze, the better," they commented.

They explained that in order to freeze meat, it is necessary to wrap it and place the quantities or pieces separately to prevent them from sticking together. If they stick together, it will be more difficult to defrost.

“They have to be wrapped and as separated as possible so that they thaw more easily later. Also, it is not advisable to stack the fillets on top of each other,” they pointed out.

To defrost meat, people usually put it in the microwave or immerse it in hot water, but butchers indicated that this is not recommended. People use these methods to defrost quickly, but the correct way is for the defrosting process to be slow. Therefore, they stated that the best way to defrost meat is to take it out of the refrigerator 24 hours before preparing it. "The most advisable or the best thing is to take it out 24 hours before and let it defrost slowly," they emphasized.
