Meghan Markle continues to be a polarizing figure. While some love the Duchess of Sussex, others scrutinize and study her every step to question her. Following the launch of her brand’s new name, she is once again in a wave of controversy, having been accused of plagiarism for the logo of her company, now rebranded as ‘As Ever’.

With a video where her daughter, Princess Lilibet, made her commercial debut, Prince Harry’s wife presented ‘As ever’ (‘Como siempre’), along with a new logo that was quite different in style from the previous one, which was more British and included a monogram very similar to those of royalty.

“Who accused Meghan Markle of plagiarism with her new logo?”

From España came the complaint about the duchess’s new logo, as there is a town in Mallorca that claims this logo is a copy of the one that identifies them as a town, which dates back to 1370.

It concerns the Ayuntamiento de Porreres, which believes that Markle’s new logo resembles theirs too closely, as it also features a palm tree in the center and, in their case, two swallows on each side.

Xisca Mora, the mayor, has announced that the legal services of the town hall are already working to study the possible legal measures to adopt, although she acknowledges in statements to El País that theirs might be the fight of David against Goliath. “Denunciar por plagio es complicado y costoso y un ayuntamiento pequeño como el nuestro no está para luchar contra la corona inglesa”, states the mayor.

However, even though the legal confrontation would not be with the “English crown,” since neither Meghan Markle belongs to the British crown nor is the company registered in the United Kingdom, the process is undoubtedly complex and requires specialized legal advice. That is why the Mallorca town council might opt for some intermediate options, based on the goodwill of Harry’s wife, and will ask her to remove a logo that reflects the patrimonial and cultural identity of Porreres. “Nos sabría mal que se pervirtiera una imagen que nos identifica como pueblo,” she points out to the aforementioned media outlet.

The previous name, American Riviera Orchard, also faced issues because it referred to a location, one of the exclusive neighborhoods of Santa Barbara, making it impossible to register. However, she did not mention this issue, as she realized that the name was limiting her, since it was understood that everything she sold had to originate from that area.
