It was the past May 3, 2007, when she was almost four years old, that little Madeleine disappeared while on vacation with her family at the Ocean Club resort in Praia da Luz. Her parents, Kate and Gerry McCann, were dining with friends at a nearby restaurant when Madeleine disappeared from her room, where she was sleeping alongside her twin siblings.
Who is Julia Wendell and what does she claim?
In 2023, Julia Wendell, a 23-year-old Polish woman, captured international attention by claiming she might be Madeleine McCann. Wendell created an Instagram account under the name @IAmMadeleineMcCann, where she shared photos and details that, according to her, supported her claim. Wendell pointed out physical similarities with Madeleine, such as a distinctive eye defect, and stated that she could not remember much of her childhood, which fueled her doubts about her true identity.
In recent days, the case has resurfaced as Wendell shared the results of a DNA test that, according to her, could confirm her identity as Madeleine McCann through her social media. The DNA test was conducted using genetic samples extracted by the police from the room where Madeleine disappeared, as the girl’s parents refused to provide direct samples.
According to the report, there is a 69.23% genetic match between Wendell and Gerry McCann, according to biochemical expert Monte Miller. Furthermore, the study indicates that Julia Wendell would not be Polish; rather, her origin is British and Irish.
The young woman has published this report on Instagram and an email from Dr. Monte Miller, an expert in forensic DNA, in which he states that both DNA profiles “match considerably” and that there is a specific pattern that seems to indicate a family connection. “Apostaría por una relación de padre, hijo o hermano”, se puede leer en el mensaje del doctor.
