This past Sunday, the gala for the 78th edition of the British film awards "BAFTA" took place at the Royal Festival Hall in London and was not without controversy. During his opening speech, the host, the renowned actor David Tennant, did not miss the opportunity to make a couple of jokes at the expense of the President of the United States, Donald Trump.

Tennant, known for his famous leading role in one of the many editions of the series ‘Dr. Who’, has been critical of Donald Trump on numerous occasions in the past and even last year, at the 78th BAFTA Awards, where he was also the host, he joked: “Poor Things, where a child’s brain is placed in an adult’s body. And at the end of this year, one of them could be re-elected president.”

In his opening monologue, in which, in search of innovation and to liven up the length of the event (for both those present and the viewers), humor is often used as a ‘weapon of communion’ amidst the tension of seeing the winners of the top awards, the also theater actor made some jokes about the Republican president.
“A movie of great architectural value. In fact, it is the boldest architecture in film this year, apart from Donald Trump’s hair," he said to introduce The Apprentice, the biographical film about the early days of the president, played by Sebastian Stan. Tennant continued in the same vein: “He hasn’t seen the biographical films because they’re not on Nickelodeon.”
At the end of his jokes about Trump, he added another one that alluded to the iconic character of Beetlejuice, the sinister magician portrayed by Michael Keaton in Tim Burton’s remake. “‘I’m worried. I’ve said his name three times”, he joked and added: “It’s like Beetlejuice: I’ve summoned him. And speaking of villains…‘”
