What is known about the biopic of Marlon Brando starring Billy Zane?
Directed by Bill Fishman, Billy Zane stars in 'Waltzing With Brando'. The film is based on the memoir of architect Bernard Judge and focuses on the collaboration between Brando and Judge to create a sustainable space on the atoll of Tetiaroa in Tahiti.
During this time, Brando was filming The Godfather and Last Tango in Paris, but he was seeking to escape from the pressure of Hollywood and live self-sufficiently on an uninhabited island.
"The tone of the movie is not that of a typical Marlon Brando biography, it's not a rags-to-riches story," commented Billy Zane in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. Zane leads the cast alongside Jon Heder, Richard Dreyfuss, and Camille Razat, in a story that deviates from conventional biopics to explore that five-year period in the actor's life."
The narrative focuses on the relationship between the actor and his architect, in their effort to build a sustainable home in a natural environment without resources such as clean water or electricity. In the first teaser that has been released in recent days, we see a determined Brando striving to turn his ideals into reality, while facing the challenges of this ambitious project. "I own an island. It is more beautiful than words can describe and cinematography can capture, and I want to move there," declares the actor in the trailer, expressing his desire to distance himself from the industry to live in peace.
Zane, who is also a producer of the film, shared that the role allowed him to explore Brando’s contradictions: “The man was a recluse who moved to an island, but he spends the night awake with the shortwave radio and can’t sleep alone. He is full of contradictions. That moved me.”
